03/24/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Greenville, SC Thomas is a LHP/OF prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Thomas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a free arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Thomas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 60-62mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits from 70-71mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Thomas shows fluid footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum on his throws, getting carry through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a short swing and produces loud contact and good power. Overall, Thomas is a talented prospect who should find success throughout his sophomore season.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Thomas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball shows a range of 77-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his feet in taking proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Thomas is lean OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Changeup is his best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed with solid arm side run. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Thomas has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
