Official Scouting Report

06/26/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Troy (Albany), NY Thomas continues to make strides in his game. Foot speed has improved as he now runs a 6.99 60 yard dash. He is aggressive in the OF to track down fly-balls hit to his right and left. Throws are accurate with carry into his target. As a hitter - Carrington shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. He takes a hack and looks to drive the middle of the field. Swinging on a more direct path with increased bat speed (along with added overall body strength) will help to increase power. Only a 2019 grad - Thomas has upside and will only continue to improve.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Thomas is a hard worker who hustles all over the field. At SS, he is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He moves well laterally hustling to ground balls hit to his right and left. He gathers well and has a strong arm firing throws across the diamond into the 1st baseman's mitt. Working more on the balls of his feet will help to improve agility and range in the INF. With the bat, Thomas remains patient and waits for his pitch (drew 3 walks at the event). He keeps his hands inside the ball on a direct path and drives the ball up the middle of the field. Continuing to engage his lower 1/2 more and improve his rhythm/timing, he will see progress in his offensive game. Thomas is a good teammate and remains positive. Only a 2019 grad - he still has a ton of time to develop his skills.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Thomas is a coachable player who is eager to learn. Offensively, this RHH has an athletic/balanced approach with a solid base. He steps into the box looking to swing it. He swings with bat speed and engages his lower 1/2 well to generate pop off of his barrel. Letting the ball travel deeper into the zone will allow for him to use the entire field. At SS, Thomas takes a quick first step in his approach to the GB. He has plus lateral range, makes the plays cleanly and gathers well working in-line toward 1B. Presenting his glove and fielding the ball more out in front of his body will help to improve his defensive abilities at SS. On the mound, this RHP works quickly keeping hitters off balance. He maintains level shoulders and works in-line toward the plate. FB now tops out at 64 mph. Driving his lower 1/2 off the rubber will help velocity to continue to climb. Carrington is a versatile player (2019 grad) who still has a ton of time to develop and the diamond.

06/30/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Troy (Albany), NY Thomas is a 2-way player as a RHP/SS. On the bump, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes on the target and works in-line toward the target. FB ranges from 60-62 mph while showing some run. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup has run. At SS, Carrington actively works around the ground ball and into an athletic fielding position. He fields the ball cleanly and makes the plays. At the plate, this RHH shows a well balanced approach with a solid base. He stays through the ball at contact and utilizes his lower 1/2 well. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength
2. Arm-action
3. Finish
Defense
1. Play through ball
2. Glove presentation
Offense
1. Load
2. Extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
