Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

07/15/2019 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 14-18) Thomas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.89. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, power potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

11/25/2018 - College PREP - Pearland (Houston), TX Thomas is a 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2020. In the field, Thomas shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Making better double play feeds can help Thomas improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and works to barrel up the baseball, leading to loud contact and line drives. Thomas can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Thomas keeps his pitches around the zone and finishes square to the plate. He works with a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph. Curveball sits from 60-63mph with 10-4 break. Slider sits from 70-71mph. Changeup sits from 60-61mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Thomas improve as a pitcher. Overall, Thomas is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
