05/13/2012 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Thomas is a RHP/C that will graduate in 2013. On the mound, shows smooth tempo and good separation. Continues to show consistency with pitches and a good repeatable mechanics. Thomas can continue to focus on using more lower body as he throws. Defensively, hands are sure and soft with fluid footwork. Pop times range from 2.14-2.25 and can continue by staying through his throws. Can continue to improve by having better direction in his body, tendency to fall off on glove side. At the plate, displays a level swing with the ability to use all fields. In order to improve hitting grades he must continue to focus on better rhythm and more lower half.

10/09/2011 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Thomas is a tall and broad, 2-way player as a RHP/3B. On the mound, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot with on-time separation and smooth rhythm. He has a quick arm action and solid balance point. Thomas has a very good CB that has an 11/5 shape with late, sharp break. More extension on his finish and using more of his lower 1/2 will help his mound effectiveness improve. Defensively, he shows soft, clean hands and makes the plays. He has a clean exchange and makes good feeds on the double play. At the plate, he displays an athletic setup and average bat speed. A better weight transfer and better timing will help him to create more pop off of his bat.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
