12/17/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 1 Hicks showed as a two-way player on the mound and in the OF for the first time. Feet are active as he takes proper first steps in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to be more aggressive and work to get behind balls more and quicken his feet to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. At the plate, hitting grades have improved through a balanced setup and he gets in a strong launch position. Hands work through a level swing path with power showing best to the pull side. He needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball and use his lower half more to improve hitting / power grades. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-74 mph with slight arm side tail. Breaking ball shows tight spin with good extension but needs to work to stay on top of pitch. Changeup shows good feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on mound will raise quickly if better off speed pitches are developed.
