Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

05/15/2022 - All-In Membership - Bowie, MD Thomas is a 1B/LHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Thomas shows active footwork and covers ground well. He fields the ball out in front with a firm glove and has a clean exchange. He gains ground well on his throws and keeps them accurate/on-line to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Thomas field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth to load and tracks the ball into the zone. He leads well with his lower half and sprays the ball to all fields. Thomas can barrel up more baseballs by working through a more level swing path. On the mound, Thomas works inline toward the plate with a clean arm. He extends through his release and finishes with his chest square to his target. Thomas operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 66mph. Breaking ball sits from 50-52mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 54-56mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Thomas improve his pitch command. Overall, Thomas is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

06/21/2021 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Frederick, MD Thomas is a 1B/LHP who will graduate in 2024. Medium frame lean build with some strength present and room/time to add throughout. At 1B, he starts with active feet and a good feel for the position. Centers baseball and fields ball out front from an athletic/square fielding position. Clean exchange into a high 3/4 arm slot with accurate/on-line throws at 68mph. Showed good bag awareness and ability to stretch/scoop baseball. On the mound, LHP works exclusively from the stretch with clean arm action. Gets to a good balance point while keeping eyes on target throughout delivery. Showed command of all 3 of his pitches. FB sat 59-62mph with good sinking action. Mixed in a 1/7 breaking ball with good depth/tilt through strike zone. Throws a changeup with FB arm speed and slight arm side run. Left-handed hitter, hits from an upright and open stance. Tracks pitches well and keeps his hands inside the baseball. Middle of the field approach who made contact to all fields during BP. Recorded a bat exit velocity of 60mph. With 3 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Thomas having a bright future on the baseball field.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Thomas is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Winter Classic. In the field, Thomas shows smooth footwork and gets into an athletic position. He fields with soft, sure hands and makes a two-handed exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate to his target. Increasing his lateral range can help Thomas improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a soft stride. He is controlled getting his hands activated in his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a short swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact to all fields. Thomas can improve as a hitter by continuing to add strength. On the mound, Thomas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Thomas shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 56mph. Breaking ball sits at 48mph. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Thomas improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Thomas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

10/13/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Baltimore, MD Thomas is a young, thin 1st baseman who will graduate in 2024. Defensively, Thomas has active feet, agile movements, and soft hands. He has a low fielding approach, athletic actions, and a clean exchange with a loose/accurate arm to his target. Offensively, Thomas has a square stance, good balance, and a level swing. He is a contact hitter, he swings on plane, and can spray the ball to all fields. Solid overall skills can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
