Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Thomas continues to show solid play in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He has loose levers and strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball and has hidden pop to all fields. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and presents well out front. He consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Thomas has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches.

07/08/2015 - College PREP - Anchorage, AK Thomas is a talented 2-way prospect (RHP/1B) who has a tall/athletic frame (6'5"/210). On the bump, this righty has an effective 4-pitch arsenal in which he will challenge hitters. He works to a tall balanced point, has smooth separation and drives downhill toward the dish. FB cracks the mitt at 86 mph while showing run. Slider has good action and will be a solid out pitch (71-73 mph). Changeup has run and compliments FB well. At 1B, Thomas moves well with athletic actions. He adjusts quickly around the bag and can pick it with soft/sure hands. Offensively, this RHH shows a balanced setup, solid base and rhythm in his hands. Hands are direct as barrel whips through the zone. He connects and drives the ball to the gaps with pop. Thomas is a well rounded 2-way prospect who will play at a high level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
