09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Thomas continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with on line zip (85 mph velocity) across the diamond. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/06/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - New Britain (Hartford), CT Thomas is a L/R SS who has a tall/solid frame (6'1"/180). Defensively, he displays quick/active prep and moves well on the balls of his feet. He shows + lateral range, gloves the ball with soft hands and has a clean transfer to throw (84 mph). As a hitter, this righty has an open stance with centered balance. He gets his hands back into a load/launch position, fires the barrel with speed on a direct path and drives it with some pop (exit velocity = 83 mph). Marshall has a solid skill-set that should provide success as he approaches his senior year.

08/18/2019 - College PREP - Providence, RI Thomas is a strong, athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Thomas has active feet, a presentable glove, and he covers ground well. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy from a loose arm action to his target. More range and playing lower will help INF skills get better. On the mound, Thomas has good balance over the rubber and a clean arm circle. He separates his hands on time, lands with good direction toward home, and he throws strikes. A longer arm action and not flying open will help mound effectiveness improve. Offensively, Thomas has an open stance, a square stride, and fast bat speed. He makes square/level contact and he uses his lower body. Hitting can improve with work on timing and a shorter swing path.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
