Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Thomas is an OF/RHP who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame lean build with strength present and plenty of room to develop. In the OF, good reads off the bat and efficient footwork enables him to take good routes to balls. Square fielding position as he fields ball out front with ability to make routine plays. Throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity of 74mph into the infield. On the mound, this right-handed pitcher works exclusively from the stretch with good tempo. Good direction towards the plate and ability to throw strikes. Attacks hitters with a FB that was up to 73mph, a breaking ball 10/4 shape, and a changeup he throws with FB arm speed. In 1 inning of work, Thomas induced 2 weak popups and a strikeout looking. A right-handed hitter, starts with an athletic and open stance. Quiet head/eyes enable him to track pitches well. Showed good awareness of the strike zone. Drew 4 walks in live game action. Simple and balanced swing with ability to hit balls to all fields with a recorded bat exit velocity of 72mph. As he continues to develop and mature, we see him having a bright future on the baseball field.

09/26/2020 - Fall Pro Training Experience - MD (HS) Thomas continues to shine on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking balls down. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City Thomas is a coachable OF prospect who showed to be a team player during his time at the Fall Classic at Pirate City. In the field, Thomas makes the routine plays and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Thomas improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance with comfortable hands. He works to barrel up the baseball and makes solid contact. Thomas can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. Overall, Thomas is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
