Official Scouting Report

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Mora topped at 88 mph, a 5 mph jump from where we saw him in December 2007. He pitched at 84-86, topped at 88. He showed as a polished pitcher with a feel for three pitches. His breaking ball had mid 70s velocity and some depth to its downward action, while change had upper 70s velocity to go with run and sink. He can work to be more aggressive to the zone, tended to nibble and use his secondary pitches early in the count - has good enough stuff to go right after hitters. Ran 7.10 in the 60-yard dash, down from the 7.30 we saw before. Also showed some gap power to the opposite field. Can work to keep his lower half back in order to allow his hands and barrel to be quicker to the zone, has potential with the bat. In the infield, his footwork was solid and he showed an above average arm. Can work to soften hands and improve his glove action. Overall, a talented pitcher with a shot at two-way potential for some.

12/01/2007 - College PREP - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Thomas is a broad-shouldered right hander with some arm strenght and a feel for two offspeed pitches. He has a loose arm and an easy leg lift. He loads up well and gets good extension. His stride is a bit inconsistent, and he lacks some rhythm between the top and bottom halves but there is more in him. Arm speed gives him a chance to develop all three pitches. Will be an interesting arm to follow over the next two springs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
