Official Scouting Report

01/24/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Jackson, MS Thomas continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with carry (85 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, his righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball shows a range of 75-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Thomas is a talented SS/RHP that attended the Pre-Season Rookie All-American. At SS, Thomas shows relaxed and smooth footwork with agile range as he moves to the ball. He fields the ball athletic and low with a soft glove out in front making clean exchanges. His ability to get rid of the ball from multiple slots shows as a strength of his as he delivers the ball around the diamond with strength. Hitting, Thomas sets up in a tall stance taking a short stride and getting his foot down on-time. He gets the barrel on plane making consistently hard contact. On the mound, Thomas shows a solid 2 pitch mix with a FB that shows some occasional cut and a 11-5 CB with big break and tight spin. He shows confidence on the mound as he gathers over the rubber separating his hands on time. His arm action is clean as he works down the mound with good direction finishing with good extension. Thomas is a solid 2-way player and we look forward to seeing his progress.

07/21/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Thomas is a lean, athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.48. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 74-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late, sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Thomas has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
