07/16/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Thomas is a RHP/3B prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Thomas gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Thomas shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with arm side run. Curveball sits from 60-65mph with late 11-5 break. Slider sits from 59-65mph with good movement. Changeup sits from 71-74mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Consistently staying on top of his secondary pitches can help Thomas improve as a pitcher. In the field, Thomas shows efficient footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Thomas can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid line drives. Letting away pitches travel deeper into the zone can help Thomas improve as a hitter. With three more years to develop, Thomas has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
