01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Thomas continued to show as a prospect at the UAAAPS Tournament. On the mound, Thomas shows a solid delivery and commands his pitches well. He has a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 79mph with good arm side run. Breaking ball ranges from 65-68mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits at 69mph. In the field, Thomas shows a good prep step and takes good angels to the ball. He fields the ball out in front of his body and makes a clean exchange to throw, keeping his throws on-line to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He comes through well with his lower half, leading to fast bat speed and consistent line drives. Thomas is a skilled prospect who has upside on the diamond.

10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Thomas continues to show the makings of a special type player with improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show in the OF for the first time. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with tight spin and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with plus sinking action. Off speed stuff show as outstanding pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches and works to get ahead. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.31 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average, displaying smooth, clean, and quick actions. He reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. Range is a plus as he utilizes his foot speed in covering a lot of ground. He works behind the baseball and plays through with momentum to his target. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with outstanding arm strength with throws showing life and on line carry. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/06/2017 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Thomas is a tall, athletic LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 75-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Thomas has an upside on the mound with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
