Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Thomas continues to shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with late downward break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his split finger with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/10/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Wildomar (Los Angeles), CA Thomas continues to shine on the diamond. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. Fastball showed a range of 70-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Slider is harder with tight spin and 11/5 shape with downward action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/23/2019 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Thomas is a RHP/IF prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Thomas shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 58-61mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 70-71mph. Lengthening his arm action can help Thomas improve as a pitcher. In the field, Thomas works to make the routine plays and throws from over top. Thomas can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance with his hands held high. He works to barrel up the baseball and drives to the opposite field. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Thomas improve as a hitter. Overall, Thomas is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

05/19/2019 - College PREP - Redlands, CA Thomas is a tall RHP that graduates in 2020. On the bump Thomas creates good direction to the plate and breaks his hands on time. His arm action is clean and works out of the 3/4 slot. Thomas can improve in his mechanics by working to finish his rotation and get over his front leg. Thomas shows 3 pitches. A FB, CB, and CH. The FB is 70-78 MPH. His CB is 58-61 MPH with 10-4 break. The CH is 70-71 MPH that is deceptive with FB arm speed and some arm side run and sink. Thomas can accelerate his development with a good long toss and weightlifting program to get stronger. Thomas has another year to develop as a 2020 grad and we look forward to seeing his development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
