Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

05/05/2019 - College PREP - College Station, TX Thurman is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Thurman shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He fields in an athletic position and makes a quick exchange, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Fielding the ball out in front of his body can help Thurman improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and takes a direct swing. He produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to solid line drives. Thurman can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Thurman gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and extends through his release. Thurman shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 55-56mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 55-57mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Thurman improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Thurman has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
