Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

09/29/2013 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Timothy continues to show as a 3B/RHP at the event but currently projects best on the mound for the next level. Delivery is solid / repeatable through a strong balance point that allows his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. He throws 3 pitches at 3 different speeds and shows a lot of potential. Fastball shows a range of 75-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with hard / late sink. Off speed pitches show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up and displays soft / clean hands. He makes the routine play and attack balls, plays through as he displays well above average defensive abilities. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent contact and works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to load more and use his lower half through the swing.

01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Tim is a young and athletic 3B who also pitched a little at Pirate City. Defensively at 3B, he fields with soft/sure hands and maintains active footwork pre-pitch and through the ball. He shows plus lateral range and can make the backhand play. Presenting his glove earlier and out in front will help to limit the bad hop from playing him. On the mound, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose arm action. Tim gets to a tall balance point and has good lead arm extension, helping him to work in line toward the plate. A long toss program will help to build his arm strength. At the plate, he shows a square setup and short stride. He gets his lower 1/2 through and works the opposite field well. Tim displays confidence and has the ability to make huge strides in his game as he is only a 2015 graduate.

12/08/2012 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Tim displays an athletic open stance, with a short simple stride and load. He also shows the ability to use his hands well during the swing, he stays inside the baseball well and delivers the barrel well at contact with good extension. Tim does a good job of getting his backside involved in the swing, he clears his hips well, and finishes the swing well. Tim needs to focus on his body posture during the swing, he tends to let his body get tall into his finish, this will cause him to get long and off balance at times. Also he tends to let his hips drift towards the baseball, and get his chest out over his front side. If he focuses on keeping his weight between his knees, and his chest back during the swing this will help with his contact and his power.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
