Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

06/28/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Bowie, MD TJ continues to shine on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities are solid as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (93 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he improves his timing to work on time. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his split finger with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise s he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) TJ is a skilled 2-way prospect who showed well at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Offensively, this righty displays an athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. He jumps on pitches he likes, whipping the barrel to and through the zone with + speed, connecting with pop. At 1B, he has active prep working smoothly right to left in his approach to the GB. Hands are presented out in front as he funnels softly. He moves well around the bag and can pick it well. TJ also has the ability to get on the mound and compete. He works tall and drives downhill, in-line toward the dish. FB cracks the mitt at 76 mph with slight arm-side run. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with good action. Changeup has some sink and compliments his FB well. Alvey is a solid all-around 2-way prospect who should make an impact on the diamond in a variety of ways.

07/26/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Bowie, MD TJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (92 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. Defensively at 1B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Backhand is smooth with a quick release. On the mound, he shows a sound, repeatable delivery that allows his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Getting on top of pitch and releasing more out front will aid in improving pitch. He maintains arm speed on changeup but throws too hard resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength on the mound.

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) TJ is an athletic and talented 2022 2-way prospect. At 1B, TJ is on time with his prep step and works off the bag well. He has a good glove on picks, a clean exchange, and a quick release on double plays. He needs to continue to improve his first step quickness and overall range to the ball. At the plate, TJ was aggressive on fastball early in counts, and looks to do damage gap to gap. He attacks the inside part of the ball but needs to be more consistent making contact and swinging at strikes. On the bump TJ shows control of his fastball down in the zone but has a tendency to leave breaking balls up in the zone. He shows good mound presence, gathers over the rubber, and works downhill. Loosening up his arm action will improve his arm and hand speed. TJ will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

04/07/2019 - College PREP - Bowie, MD TJ is a tall, solid RHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he displays solid hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft /sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves and he increases foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, TJ has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
