Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/CPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Historic Dodgertown Tomas is a hardworking 2B/C prospect who has a solid approach to the game. As a right-handed hitter, Tomas has a square stance with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and a square, on-time stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Tomas shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path producing consistent contact. He does a nice job tracking the ball and gives competitive ABs. Tomas is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. In the field, Tomas plays with active footwork and a quick first step. He takes effective angles and fields the ball in an athletic position with soft hands. Tomas has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Tomas is a gamer who has a well-rounded skill set on both sides of the ball.

11/19/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Marlborough (Boston), MA Tomas is a 2B/C with a small, athletic build. Defensively at 2B, he takes quick lateral routes and works into an athletic fielding position on GB's. He funnels the GB with soft hands and has a quick/clean exchange to throw. Behind the plate, he sits low with fluid footwork. He receives pitches with a soft mitt and makes on-line throws down to 2B. As a hitter, Tomas has a strong base with a balanced load. He swings on a short path through the zone and sprays pitches to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Stay low on double play flips
2. Arm strength (long toss)
3. Play through
Catching
1. Quick to block
2. Stick pitches
3. More on the bag throws
Offense
1. Develop rhythm
2. Improve bat speed
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
