07/26/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One North O'Hara continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive grade has improved as he uses his quick feet well in working around balls and squaring up, displaying clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to present hands more out front. At the plate, power grade has improved as he shows superior power numbers. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as well as he topped out at 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run on a downhill plane. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained.

06/02/2013 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Tommy is a talented left-handed swinger who excels offensively. At the plate, he displays patience and a quiet approach as he has good rhythm and gets into a solid loaded position. He delivers the barrel to and through the zone quickly, resulting is hard contact. He will be a run producer with his ability to drive the ball to the gaps. Defensively, O'Hara shows good pre-pitch movements and works to get himself behind the fly ball well. His aggressiveness and awareness result in the ability to cover a lot of ground. On the bump, this RHP has a commanding 3-pitch mix (FB/SL/CH). FB ranges from 79-81 mph and has heavy action. SL has powerful break and shows hard 11/5 shape. He maintains good rhythm and tempo working downhill and in-line toward the dish. This strong and athletic (6'3"/215 lbs) player has a solid all-around skill set which will put him into position to advance his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
