11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures South Locey stands a solid 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds. He sat 89-90 with a heavy fastball and touched 91. He was aggressive and effectively wild - he had control and worked in the bottom of the zone, while the sporadic bigger miss seemed to help him by making hitters uncomfortable. His 73-74 breaking ball had action and depth consistent with pitch of higher velocity - late action down and especially across zone. He showed very good feel for the pitch, it had the makings of power - on a warmer night could see acceleration in break. Threw an upper 70s splitter as a third pitch. He threw it with fastball arm speed and got some tumble action, with more velocity this pitch stands to gain depth and mature into a true out pitch. Overall, he appears to have the makings of a power combo - at least FB and breaking ball, and potentially a three pitch mix with SPL.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
