03/02/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Hitting, Pitching & Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Trace is a coachable LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. On the mound, Trace gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 53mph. Breaking ball sits from 46-47mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits from 50-52mph with tailing action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Separating his hands earlier in his motion can help Trace improve as a pitcher. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and gets into his load well. He drives through with his lower half and produces solid line drives. Trace can improve as a hitter by getting into his load sooner. With six more years to develop, Trace has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

11/15/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) TJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 53 mph. Fastball showed a range of 50-53 mph Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/04/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Vinton (Roanoke), VA TJ is a thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the mound, TJ has a compact delivery, a clean arm circle, and he separates on time. He keeps his eyes on target, lands with good direction toward home, and competes in the zone. At 1B, TJ has a good 1st step to the ball, he keeps it in front of his body, and can scoop the ball out if the dirt. Offensively, TJ has a tall set-up, a square stride, and good balance. He has a direct barrel, average bat speed, and can work it gap to gap. TJ can get better with work on the following.

1. Landing
2. Finish
3. Lower body
1. Footwork
2. Hands
3. Release
1. Load
2. Rhythm/timing
3. Lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
