06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Trace continues to shine on the diamond. Defensively, his feet play well, and he moves with good body control to the baseball, displaying proper footwork around bag. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. He stands over the rubber well, is around the plate with all of his pitches. Fastball showed a range of 69-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/26/2018 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Trace continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a splitter that has tumbling action. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/27/2018 - College PREP - Keizer (Salem), OR Trace is a talented RHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Trace has a balanced delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes direct on his target. Trace lands closed to home plate and can benefit from a longer stride. He does a nice job engaging his hips as he rotates towards his target. Trace commands his fastball with tail movement. He also locates his 12-6 o'clock curveball and his changeup is developing. In the field, Trace plays with energy and quick footwork. He presents his glove and moves with agile actions as he fields the ball in the center of his body. He has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate and consistent across the diamond. Offensively, Trace has a tall setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Trace gives great effort and battles in his ABs. He has repeatable mechanics with an upward swing path. Trace is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. Overall, Trace is a well-rounded prospect who plays the game the right way giving him a bright future on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
