Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Trace continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to square ball up and makes the routine plays. He displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a splitter that has tumbling action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

05/27/2018 - College PREP - Salem, OR Trace is a talented RHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Trace has a balanced delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his eyes direct on his target. Trace lands closed to home plate and can benefit from a longer stride. He does a nice job engaging his hips as he rotates towards his target. Trace commands his fastball with tail movement. He also locates his 12-6 o'clock curveball and his changeup is developing. In the field, Trace plays with energy and quick footwork. He presents his glove and moves with agile actions as he fields the ball in the center of his body. He has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate and consistent across the diamond. Offensively, Trace has a tall setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Trace gives great effort and battles in his ABs. He has repeatable mechanics with an upward swing path. Trace is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. Overall, Trace is a well-rounded prospect who plays the game the right way giving him a bright future on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
