06/19/2023 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Trace continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the Omaha event. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering ball out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.25 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Trace is a 2026 C who showcased his skills during the BF Rookie PSAA Tournament. Behind the dish, he does a good job of replacing his feet and works with good direction towards second base. Presents a good target, with good elbow hinge, and tracks pitches well with strong hands. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 70mph and a best pop time of 2.38 seconds. Showed a good spine angle on his blocks and covers the 5-hole. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and open stance with low hands. He starts with a small glide step and keeps his weight between knees. He hit balls to all fields with a with a bat exit velocity up to 68mph during BP. During the event, Trace reached base 4 times with a single, and 3 base on balls. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Trace as he enters his freshman baseball season.

06/24/2022 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (MS) Trace is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Select Training at the CWS. Behind the dish, Trace is efficient moving to block and keeps dirt balls in front of him. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gains gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws with carry through the 2B bag. Long tossing can help Trace build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He gets into a simple load and hits against a strong front side. He works through a level swing and drives the ball from gap to gap. Trace can barrel up more baseballs by shortening his swing path. On the mound, Trace gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Trace operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 67mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 54-56mph with 11-5 break. Finishing with his chest over his front knee can help Trace improve his pitch command. Overall, Trace is a talented prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
