  • C/SSPosition Projection

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Travis continues to develop his game. This time showing as a C/SS. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions presenting a low target. He is quick to block working to center pitches in the dirt. Throws down to 2B are accurate coming from a clean exchange (pop times as low as 2.34). At SS, he shows active footwork and moves well around the GB. He present his glove, extending it out in front funneling smoothly. He gathers well and works in-line toward 1B. Playing through the ball more will help to improve his defensive skill set in the MIF. With the bat, Travis shows a square setup with rhythm to load. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and hits the ball where it's pitched, using the whole field. Relaxing/loosening his grip will allow for more bat whip and increased bat speed. Only a 2018 grad - Travis has worked hard and molded himself into quite a player.

09/14/2014 - National Tryout - Azusa, CA Travis showed improvements in all aspects of his game. Behind the dish, Travis has athletic, actions, sure hands, and good footwork. He tracks the ball well, has good blocking technique, and delivers the ball with accuracy to his target. On the hill, Travis works down in the zone, he gets good extension on his pitches, and he rotates well through to his target. Offensively, Travis showed quiet action, a still head, and the ability to keep his hands inside the ball well.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Travis continues to prove that he is an athletic player that has potential at multiple positions. On the mound, he attacked the zone displaying good movement to his FB. His balance is controlled with a fluid free arm action. He can work on maintaining his arm speed on off speed pitches. Defensively, Travis fields out in front with soft/sure hands. He has good quickness but will need to focus on learning how to play through the ball and rely on his body to help with throws. Offensively, Travis has solid mechanics with good balance and lower half. Improvements will be made as he gets his stride foot down earlier and allows the ball to travel.

12/15/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Ontario, CA Travis is a young, 2-way player who pitches and plays SS. On the mound, Travis has a loose arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and his mechanics are solid. He has good separation, he tucks his glove well, and competes in the zone. Defensively, Travis has efficient footwork, he gets in a good ready position, and his hands are sure. He has a compact exchange, and throws with accuracy across the diamond. At the plate, Travis has an athletic set-up, a quiet head, and a simple swing. He has direct hands to the ball, a level swing, and he uses the middle of the field. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Avoid re-coiling
2. Throw downhill
3. More lower body
Defense
1. Play more through
2. Long toss
Offense
1. Bat speed
2. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
