Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Travis Wedding is progressing very well as a L/L 1B/LHP. Offensively, he showed good rhythm to hit and tracked the baseball to his barrel. He showed a line-drive path with good core rotation and flashed pop to his pull-side. Defensively, he showed good athleticism and made plays with efficient footwork. He showed good knowledge for the position and had solid fundamental skill to make the routine plays. On the mound, he threw a FB up to 67, and spun a 1/7 CB from 56-57. He kept his eyes on the target throughout the delivery and showed good front side glove action. All in all - Travis is showing strengths as he gets ready to enter his 8th grade spring season, and with added strength over time has a shot to be a very good player.

03/22/2015 - National Tryout - Bowie, MD Travis continues to work hard on his game. On the mound, this lefty works to a tall balance point and maintains level shoulders. FB ranges from 61-64 mph as he works both sides of the plate. Breaking ball has 1/7 shape with gradual action (53-55 mph). He repeats well and mixes his pitches. Finishing with extension out over his front side will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. At 1B, Travis makes the backhand play smoothly. He moves well around the bag with the ability to pick it. Presenting his glove and fielding the ball more out in front will help to improve defensive skills. With the bat, this lefty shows a balanced approach with rhythm in his hands. He connects with strength and drives the ball on a line. Leveling out his swing path will help to increase contact consistency. Only a 2020 grad - Travis still has a ton to time to develop on the diamond.

07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown Travis is a young two-way player (1B/RHP), who shows potential at both. Defensively he has the ability to use the glove at first base, with the ability to pick it with soft sure hands. He needs to continue to work on his fundamentals on groundballs, and his footwork around the bag. At the plate Travis displays a good setup with a sound stride and load. He shows a good mechanical swing, with the ability to hit the baseball well to all fields. On the mound he is a crafty lefty with the ability to hit his spots, and keep the ball down in the zone. He has the ability to throw two pitches with natural movement on both.

03/16/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Travis is a young, stocky, 2-way player who plays 1B and LHP. Defensively, Travis has a good glove, he stays down on the baseball, and he moves around the bag well. He keeps the ball in front, his exchange is clean, and he throws with some accuracy to his target. On the mound, Travis has a fluid arm action, he throws strikes, and he keeps his eyes on target. At the plate, Travis has good balance, a square set-up, and direct hands to the ball. He swings in good rhythm, he has good hand-eye coordination, and he squares the ball up well on the barrel. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field out front
2. Play through ball
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Extension
2. Balance point
3. Stride
Offense
1. Level off swing
2. Let ball travel
3. Bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
