Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Trent really impressed with his baseball abilities at the Preseason All American event. At the plate, power potential is now at a pro level. Hands are quick (97 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path, creating extension. He has loose levers and strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. In the IF, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through while presenting glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on throws. Trent has the makings of a special type player with tools that will play at the next level.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Trent showed continued to show as a 1B/RHP with a tremendous future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best at 1B where he has improved his baseball tools but has an upside on the mound. At the plate is where he continues to show best through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He is strong as he fires the barrel through the zone with authority and uses his lower half well with a feel for the barrel as the baseball explodes off the bat when centered. Hands works inside the ball utilizing all fields with tremendous pop to all fields. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with a 2B. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions displaying proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and consistently shows the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-81 mph with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, working to get ahead of hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be. Trent has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

06/03/2015 - Under Armour Southeast Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Trent is a power hitting corner infielder who can make things happen with the stick. Offensively, he shows a simple/balanced approach with rhythm to load. He delivers the barrel with speed and connects with strength with the ability to drive it to the deep parts of the park. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered (exit velocity of 88 mph). He is a middle of the order type of hitter who will be an RBI machine. Defensively, Trent has the versatility to play either corner spot in the INF. He gets into a low fielding position, tracks the ball into his mitt and gathers well. He is sure handed showing the ability to pick it at 1B. McMullen brings his all to the field every day. He is a coachable player who works very hard.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Trent is a strong 1B that will graduate in 2017. At 1B Trent has a quick first step, he fields with soft / sure hands, and uses the proper footwork with his approach. He works well around the bag and has a quick exchange. His throws are accurate with good carry. At the plate he has an athletic stance, good balance, and he uses his lower half well. He has excellent bat speed and gap to gap power. He gets good extension and finishes high with a fluid swing.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Trent continues to have the look of a projectable corner infielder. Offensively, he hit for pop and began to trust his pace. Staying loose throughout the swing and eliminating over-swinging frequency will add to his prowess. At 1B, he was a large target for infielders and had plus athleticism to make plays. He could become more consistent to get into a low fielding position and needs to work through arm maintenance drills to stay healthy.

10/01/2014 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Trent is a very well built 2017 that can flat out swing it. He gets himself into a strong hitting position and delivers the barrel down to contact generating plus bat speed. He is accurate with the barrel as proven by his 4-6 performance with a BB & HBP at the AZ Sophomore Fall Classic. Mechanically, he has quiet actions and is able to repeat his swing. The ball jumps off his bat on contact and he drives to both gaps. Remaining disciplined and trusting his productive pace (not trying to swing to hard) - will elevate Trent's overall hit ability. Defensively, he has good actions around 1B, and picks the ball in the dirt. He takes a quick first step to work around and field balls and flashes soft hands. A lower fielding position will increase his fielding percentage by forcing his hands further in front for sureness. All in all - Trent is a very exciting player that we look forward to tracking throughout high school.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
