Official Scouting Report

10/16/2013 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Trent showed well on the mound during his time in Arizona. He has a loose arm, with life, and his FB touched 86 MPH. Trent repeats his delivery well, he has a good mound presence, and he works on a downhill plane. Trent uses his lower body, and competes in the zone with his pitches. In the OF, Trent has good body control, he takes great routes, and he gets to the ball quickly. He stays behind it well, and delivers it with accuracy and carry to his target. At the plate, Trent has good balance, a square stride, and an aggressive swing. He maintains his posture well, and gets down the line quickly.

06/17/2013 - College PREP - Houston, TX Trent is an athletic OF/RHP who has a strong arm. In the OF, his aggressiveness and quick feet help him to cover ground and track down balls hit into the gaps. He works well behind the fly-ball, has a clean exchange and makes strong/accurate throws toward his target. At the plate, this right-handed swinger shows a tall setup and solid load. He has quick hands and delivers the barrel to and through the zone, showing the ability to spray the ball and use the whole field. He has power potential if he can utilize more of his lower 1/2 to generate more pop. On the bump, Trent has a 3-pitch mix (FB/CB/CH). FB ranges from 81-83 mph and CB shows 12/6 shape with early break. He maintains level shoulders and delivers from a loose arm action. Improving his rhythm will help to improve command/control. Murphy is a talented prospect and still has a couple of years to fine tune his skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
