Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Tresten continues to shine a RHP/SS with a big upside at both positions. On the mound, he shows sound mound presence and works through a repeatable delivery. Fastball showed in the high 80 range with slight tailing action with the baseball jumping out of his hand with late life. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters with strikes with all his pitches. At SS, he is fundamentally sound and shows big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, hands are quick/strong as he shows a solid feel for the barrel. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Tresten is a talented player that will get a lot of attention, possibly as a two-way player.

07/20/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Tresten showed very impressive ability against all around solid competition at the Baseball Factory National West's showcase. On the hill, he ran his FB up to 89 and threw it for a high volume of strikes, and spun an 11/5 CB with late break from 69-70. He works downhill with his delivery and loose arm action, extending out in front to finish with his chest over his front knee. He only allowed one guy on base, struck out 3, and induced mostly ground ball outs. At short, he was efficient to work around the ball and made plays with a subtle glove. He showed present arm strength and covered ground with ease. Offensively, he flashed good bat speed with his hand/hip coordination and had strength at contact. He flashed pop and collected a pair of hits in just 5 ab's. In all - Tresten is a gifted player that does a lot of things well on the diamond and projects nicely at either spot.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Tresten is a solid all-around talent that is fun to watch. Defensively at SS, he shows his athleticism as he can get to GB's to his right and left with ease. Exchange is quick/clean as he gains ground and fires throws with carry across the diamond. He made quite a few nice plays in the game as his mechanics and skills translate well. With the bat, this strong righty has a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Swing is quick to and through as he finishes with extension. Kennard also got on the mound and threw a few innings. He is out there to compete and pounds the zone with strikes. FB shows arm-side run on a slight downward plane. He remains compact throughout his delivery and extends on his finish. Tresten has a high baseball IQ as he's always thinking one play ahead. A skilled and coachable player - he is one who will get some quality looks over the next couple of years.

11/02/2014 - College PREP - Midland, TX Tresten is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2016 with a solid frame and plus tools across the board. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.93 60 time. Defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active/aggressive as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft/sure hands. He works around and plays through the ball well with his body. Throws are accurate, and he shows good carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, displaying outstanding arm strength. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic/squared setup and he tracks the ball well. Hands are quick, aggressive, and generate bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Tresten has the makings of a special type player that will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
