Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Tristan has a tall/lean frame at 6'6/200 lbs and performed with some fundamental consistency. At 1B, he made plays tracking the ball into the glove. He positioned himself properly pre-pitch and showed some pickability around the bag. Offensively, he hit from a good base and had good hands getting the barrel through the zone. He was controlled with his head, and flashed pop with an 80 mph exit velo. He worked in the cage on being more fluid to hit and delivering his hands/hips together. On the mound, he threw a FB from 72-74, spun an 11/5 CB from 65-68, and showed a sinking CH with some depth from 62-63. He repeated his delivery and had great presence on the bump. With some work on developing his off-speed pitches and adding extension with a towel drill are essential for pitch ability. In all - Tristan has the frame to continue adding strength and ability to for the next level.

05/03/2015 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Tristan continues to work hard on his game. On the mound, he works through fluid tempo with sound all-around mechanics. He works to stay on top and drive downhill toward the dish. FB now tops out at 71 mph as he fills up the zone with strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape and shows to be a good out pitch. Utilizing his 6'6" frame and getting more extension on his finish will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. At 1B, he works well around the bag and can pick it. He gets into a square fielding position, gathers well and has a clean exchange. With the bat, Niskanen maintains a relaxed grip as he has rhythm and lets the ball travel into the zone. Swing path is compact as he connects and drives the middle of the field. Finishing with more extension will help to increase he power numbers. Tristan has a ton of upside with still time to develop his game.

05/05/2013 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Tristan is a RHP/1B with a tall and lanky frame. On the mound, this big bodied RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a long and loose arm action. He has smooth separation and gets good glove side lead, working in-line toward the dish. CB shows 10/4 shape and slight action. Developing more arm-strength by getting on a long toss program will help to improve mound effectiveness. At 1B, Niskanen takes a quick first step and works to get into a square fielding position. His big target is hard to miss as he can get to almost every throw. Offensively, this right-handed hitter displays a tall stance and good balance. He lets the ball travel into the zone and drives the ball to the gaps. As only a 2016 grad, Tristan will only continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
