01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Continuing to develop as an advanced 2020 Catcher, Troy shows poise and polished mechanics each time out. Receives the ball well, gets underneath the ball to earn more strikes for his pitchers without too much movement. Strong hands and a lightning quick exchange/release lead to POP times consistently below 2.0 sec (1.95 POP at the event). Excellent blocker due to his felxiblity, is on time, centers the ball and controls rebounds. At the plate, has an open setup, strides squarely and controlled, and swings on plane with good bat speed. Makes consistent contact on the barrel and shows the ability to drive the ball to all fields. Look for continued polish as Troy prepares for baseball at the next level.

10/17/2018 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Troy is an athletic and talented 2020 Catching prospect that worked hard during the Junior Fall Classic. Behind the dish, Troy has an athletic primary and secondary stance. He shows a big target and works behind the ball. He leads with his glove and controls the balls in the dirt with his chest. Troy has a clean exchange, creates momentum in his lower half, and keeps his throws online. He needs to continue to work under low balls and moving side to side when blocking. At the plate, Troy starts in a squared stance and gets his front foot down on time. He attacks the inside part of the ball, gets extension thru contact, and has an opposite field approach. He needs to continue to create backside rotation with his lower half and load his hand back into the drive position. Troy needs to be more aggressive on fastballs and adjust with two strikes. Troy will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/04/2018 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Troy continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. He is an athlete that works hard behind the plate. Behind the plate, feet are quick in gaining ground through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 1.97 range and he hosed 2 runners trying to steal. He has the ability to catch and throw. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and sticks balls well in the zone and utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. He shows great leadership traits behind the dish. At the plate, hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Working to get stride foot down sooner will aid in improving hitting grade. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable, and plays the game hard.

06/10/2018 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Troy continues to shine on the diamond. He did show at 2B for the first time at the event. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.15 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / clean and he sticks balls well in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering all balls out front. At 2B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. He shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

10/04/2017 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Troy is a talented C/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. He continues to progress and showed well during his time at the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic. Behind the dish, he sits in with an athletic setup with good sway. Lateral actions are quick as he works to body up pitches in the dirt. Throws to 2B are on the bag, as he gains ground and works in-line toward his target. At the plate, this righty battles in every AB. He gets good hand separation and fires the barrel on a direct path to contact. He takes a hack and doesn't get cheated. He puts the bat on the ball consistently as he collected 5 singles at the event. Lopes also has the ability to toe the rubber and compete. This RHP has a quick arm action with his FB now topping out at 75 mph as it has slight run. He is very aggressive and challenges hitters to swing the bat as he pounds the zone and doesn't give many free passes. He maintains quick tempo and doesn't give hitters time to settle in. Troy is a well-rounded 2-way player who gives 100% day in and day out.

06/24/2017 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Troy continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, pop times showed in the 2.06 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and sticks balls in zone, displaying a soft glove action. He utilizes his body well but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with 5 BB as he displays a patient approach and solid eye. Mental makeup is a plus as he is extremely coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

06/04/2017 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Troy continues to show as a prospect on the diamond and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He is a high-energy player that gets after it on the field. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.94. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with carry on his throws and will control the running game with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he improved his hitting abilities through a squared / balance setup. Hands are loose / clean and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 69-72 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual action. He slows arm speed on his changeup tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Troy continues to show a promising future on the diamond with his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.15 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he works to square up to target with feet?? and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a solid setup and displays soft hands that stick balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he utilizes his body well and deadens balls out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and a feel for the barrel. At the event, he was 2 for 5. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, is a team player, and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/13/2016 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Troy continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has really improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. He shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.30 range. Receiving / blocking tools show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. With 4 years to further develop, Troy has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

10/01/2016 - Pitching & Catching Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Troy is a solid young catcher who continued to show his skills at the Accelerated Training Weekend. Troy shows quick feet behind the plate and he sits in an athletic position to receive the ball. He presents his hands well when receiving and has a quick exchange to throw. He has a quick release to second base and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Troy can improve as a catcher by squaring up the ball when blocking balls in the dirt. Overall, Troy is a solid catcher who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

07/10/2016 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Troy continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.21 range with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. He is a vocal leader on the field and shows a solid feel for the game. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 69 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Troy has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

04/03/2016 - College PREP - Providence, RI Troy continues to progress. Behind the dish, he sits in with a wide base and maintains smooth/athletic actions. Feet are quick as he replaces well, throws are accurate with pop times now at 2.29. Offensively, he shows centered balance with a solid base. He swings against a firm front side, barrels the ball up and works to drive the middle of the field. On the mound, Troy has fluid tempo and repeats his delivery well. He uses his lower 1/2 and drives downhill off of the rubber. FB now tops out at 66 mph while showing slight tail. Changeup shows to be his best off-speed as it has sink and will get GB's. Lopes (2020 grad) has a bright future ahead of him with his hard working mentality.

01/30/2016 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Troy showed continued improvement during his time at the Hitting ATW. Working from an open set up, Troy works through an activated stride and load complex putting him into a solid hitting position at the plate. The hands are quick and direct to the baseball and Troy's best results came as the hands stayed through the baseball in a palm-up-palm-down position allowing for greater extension and backspin on line-drives. Increased utilization of a lower half drive to the baseball will only improve upon Troy's current bat speed and add more pop. With the hard working mind-set that Troy has, he is developing into an exciting young player.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 Troy is a hard worker who leads by example. His love for the game is evident every time that he steps onto the diamond. He is a leader behind the dish which is want you want to see from your catcher. He sits in well with flexion. He is quick laterally and works to body up pitches in the dirt, keeping them in front. Transfer is clean with accurate throws down to 2B. Offensively, Troy steps into the box with a purpose. He battles an proved to be a tough out. He has good zone awareness as he drew 2 walks at the event. More lower 1/2 drive will help to increase power at the plate. Lopes is a gamer who has a bright future as he continues to mature.

11/15/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Marlborough (Boston), MA This 2-way player continues to progress in his skills. Behind the dish - he sits in with flexion and tracks pitches into a soft mitt- framing well. He has athletic actions and moves well laterally to center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Exchange is smooth with pop times now at 2.37. Offensively, Troy shows a patient approach, waiting for his pitch. He connects and works to engage his lower 1/2 - helping to generate some pop off of his barrel. On the mound, Lopes works to a tall balance point and drives downhill toward the dish. He maintains smooth actions, repeating well. FB tops out at 61 mph as he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball shows 12/6 shape with good action. Troy still has a ton of time and will continue to develop his skill-set.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Troy is a C/RHP that worked really hard in all of the drill work and game play at the Pirate City National World Series with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he had a contact approach and tracked the ball to contact well. He worked to drive with his lower and stay more compact with his barrel to boost pop. Defensively, he did a nice job of implementing drills into game play, working on his footwork and receiving skills. He started to get a more fluid relationship with throwing hand and glove to quicken his transfer. As a pitcher, he threw a FB, and CB with good depth. He was strong with his front side on the target and had a balanced delivery to pound the zone. His tempo and pitch to pitch rhythm was repeatable and allowed him to get outs. All in all - Troy will enter his 8th grade year with some present ability and the drills necessary to improve for spring ball.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Troy continues to show improvement behind the plate where he projects best. His pop times improved down to a 2.77 and blocking/receiving skills show positive upside. He sets a low target with decent footwork on his throw downs. At the plate, this righty still uses a simple approach with repeatable mechanics. This consistency allows him to hit in the top of the lineup. On the mound, Troy keeps the ball down with his H3/4 arm action and smooth mechanics. Troy is a great teammate with a serious passion for the game.

11/16/2014 - National Tryout - Marlborough (Boston), MA Troy continues to work hard on his game. Behind the plate, exchange is clean and he gains ground toward his target, pop times now at 2.80. He works hard around pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. With the bat, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Swing path is level as he hits line-drives. More lower 1/2 drive and extension through contact will help his offensive abilities improve. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix as he works through a repeatable delivery. He fills up the zone and throws strikes, attacking hitters. FB now touches 60 mph while he works in-line toward the plate. Added velocity will come with more arm strength and as he continues to physically mature.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex (Ages 12-14) Troy is a young player and a rock-solid teammate. He is an "eat nails", blue-collar player who take control, steps up and is very fun to coach. Behind the plate, Troy bodies the ball up well, performs fearless, communicates effectively and understands situations. He needs to improve his footwork and blocking ability laterally to each side. He can also do a better job of driving his backside through his targets when he throws. As a RHP, Troy works in line with his target, can hold runners well, and has good body control. He can improve on the mound as he extends more on his follow through and strengthens his arm. Offensively, Troy makes good consistent contact and can hit well situationally. He needs to load his hands more while keeping his balance centered during his swing.

11/17/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Middletown (Hartford), CT Troy is a young, 2-way player who catches and pitches. Behind the plate, Troy has a square stance, sure hands, and he receives the ball softly. He keeps the ball in front to block, his exchange is clean, and he throws with good mechanics to '2nd base. On the mound, Troy works in good tempo, he keeps his eyes on target, and he uses his lower body. He is around the plate with his pitches, and he finishes in a good position. Offensively, Troy has an upright stance, he keeps his hands back, and he swings aggressively. He has good barrel accuracy, makes solid contact, and he works the middle of the field. Overall abilities can improve if Troy can work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
