01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Troy is a solid and athletic OF/C. In the outfield, he has good feet and he creates nice routes / angles to balls, but needs to work on getting behind fly balls and stay on top of his throws. Behind the plate, he quick footwork, good hip flexion, and a clean transfer on his throws to second. His abilities behind the plate should continue to develop as he learns to find a consistent arm angle / arm slot. At the plate, he has a balanced setup and stays direct to contact with good bat speed. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to gets his hands in a powerful launch position. With two more years of high school baseball remaining, Troy has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

12/18/2011 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Troy is a solid, athletic C/3B that will graduate in 2013. Currently, he projects best as a catcher for the next level. Feet are quick / aggressive as he gains ground, works in-line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.03-2.17 with an average of 2.09 as he displays carry / accuracy on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, he presents glove out front showing clean hands. Exchange is quick with throws showing carry across the diamond. He needs to develop more consistency to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Sutton continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the ball at contact as he shows solid barrel accuracy with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Troy has the makings to be a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
