01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Trystin is a tall, athletic two-way prospect who shows the skills and baseball IQ to be an asset at both positions he plays. He shows natural hitting instincts at the dish with feel for the barrel and the ability to put the ball in play to all fields. He shows a tall, square setup in the box with an aggressive approach, looking to ambush the pitch he's looking for, and a good idea of the strike zone. His hands are loose and his lower half generates bat speed and pop as he shows consistent contact skills and pop to the pull side. In the outfield, he works aggressively to the ball and shows a wide catch radius with his long frame and arms. He stays low to the ground to field, working through the ball to move towards his target and make accurate throws. Working on reads off the bat will result in quicker jumps and extended range in the future. On the bump, this southpaw shows off clean arm action to get whip on release and add some tailing action to his upper 70's fastball. He generates good power to the plate through his hips and works directionally to the hitter to show good control. Trystin is an intriguing, projectable prospect who we are excited to continue following as he progresses.

07/31/2016 - College PREP - Gillette, WY Trystin continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. On the mound, arm strength has improved, as he threw his top velocity at 73 mph. Fastball shows a range of 69-73 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays a 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sink. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Trystin has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

07/27/2014 - College PREP - Gillette, WY Trystin is a lean 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2017. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more with his feet while presenting hands more out front and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing the middle of the field well. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he learns to create more extension through the ball at contact. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-68 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develops better off speed pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Trystin has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
