Official Scouting Report

02/15/2015 - National Tryout - Sanford (Orlando), FL Tucker continues to develop his skills (this time just showing as a catcher). Exchange is quick as he puts his throws on the bag with pop times now as low as 1.95. He shows his athleticism working around pitches in the dirt and deadening them off of his chest. With the bat, this RHH remains patient tracking the ball into the zone. He hits it where it's pitched and drives it to all parts of the field. Tucker has a ton of upside and will command the game from behind the dish.

11/02/2014 - National Tryout - Tampa, FL Tucker showed good mechanics on the mound, a smooth delivery, and good off-speed during his last workout in Tampa. He stands over the rubber well, his arm is free and loose, and he keeps his eyes on target. Tucker separates on time, has a controlled landing, and pounds the zone consistently with 3 pitches.

02/16/2014 - College PREP - Orlando, FL Tucker continues to progress in his game. Offensively, this RH swinger shows a square setup with a solid base. He takes a hack and hits the ball on a line. Behind the dish, Tucker sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He has a quick exchange and gets the ball down to 2B accurately in as low as 2.10. At 2B, he is a fundamentally sound INF. He has smooth actions, gets into an athletic fielding position and fields the ball cleanly. He makes the backhand play smoothly and works in-line toward 1B. Tucker also got on the bump at the event. FB still sits at 80 mph as works stay directional and works downhill. He has a repeatable delivery and throws strikes with all 3-pitches. Splitter is effective as it drops and can be a solid out-pitch. Tucker is coachable, displays a positive attitude, quick recovery, and great character. If he continues to improve his overall game, he'll put himself in a good position to stay on the radar of college coaches.

11/03/2013 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Tucker continues to show solid abilities in his game. On the mound, this RHP has a 4-pitch arsenal. He shows good tempo and reaches a controlled balance point over the rubber. The ball jumps out of his hand, cracking the mitt at 80 mph. CB shows 11/5 shape and late break. Splitter is best pitch as it has good downward movement and is a good out pitch. He maintains good arm-speed while throwing every pitch and keeps hitters guessing. Defensively behind the plate, he works hard to get around pitches in the dirt, centering them off of his chest. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward 2B. Offensively, Tucker shows good balance and swings on a level path. He is a contact type hitter and puts the ball in play consistently. Smith is a hard worker who continues to improve and should make an impact on the diamond this upcoming season.

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Tucker is an athletic RHP/IF that will graduate in 2015. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work smooth to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 73-75 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains are speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side action. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. In the IF, feet are active as he works to square balls up, showing clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls and play through while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, Tucker shows an athletic setup with balance / rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and keep hands inside the ball. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Tucker has abilities with a lot of room to improve. Tucker's current baseball abilities, coupled with his strong work ethic and excellence in the classroom, make him a solid student athlete and still has two years to improve his overall game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
