Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Ty continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he only showed from the right side but has improved his hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap guy. At 2B, hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but will benefit by playing through with his body. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

05/28/2017 - College PREP - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Ty is a solid, strong 2B/RHP who will graduate in 2019. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure but needs to present earlier and more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter but projects best from the right side. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 65-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Ty has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
