12/19/2010 - College PREP - Hightstown, NJ Tyler increased his radar velocity from 80 to 83 MPH and lowered his 60 time from 7.62 to 7.54 at his last workout in Hightstown. In the INF, Tyler showed good hands, he moves well laterally, and he catches everything. He has a nice arm action and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. Behind the plate, Tyler has soft hands, playable / active feet, and he looks the ball in. He has natural instincts, he centers the ball well, and he throws with a short arm action and average strength to 2nd base. Catching skills can get better with a wider base and using more legs to throw. At the plate, Tyler shows a simple swing, quiet actions, and a relaxed approach. He throws his hands to the ball well, he has a line drive approach, and he makes okay use of his lower 1/2. If Tyler can keep his hands high, and loosen his actions offensive numbers can get better.

05/02/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Tyler showed improvements both in the INF, and behind the plate at the Selden, NY workout. In the INF, Tyler's arm grade improved from 40 to 45, and his fielding from 40 to 45. He works hard in the INF, shows soft hands, and he gets rid of the ball quickly. Tyler has an accurate arm to his target, and has a good overall idea at the 2B position. Behind the plate, Tyler improved his pop times, blocking, and receiving grades. He lowered his pop times from 2.16-2.25 down to 2.11-2.19. Tyler moves athletically behind the plate, holds a soft glove and has quiet actions. He gains ground well, gets rid of the ball quickly, and has good direction toward his target. Added arm strength and a better secondary stance should help defensive catching abilities improve. Offensively, Tyler has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has quick hands, attacks the ball, and squares it up well on the barrel of the bat. Hitting can improve if Tyler can let the ball travel deeper and use more lower 1/2.

02/16/2010 - College PREP - Freeport (Long Island), NY Tyler is a young, 2-way player both at 2B, and behind the plate. He currently shows even at both positions and shows a lot of promise offensively. At 2B, Tyler's hands and feet play well together, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a decent exchange and moves well around the bag. Defensive abilities can improve if Tyler can work to field the ball in a lower, more athletic position. Behind the plate, Tyler has soft hands and shows some quickness. He looks the ball in, is somewhat firm when receiving, and he is not afraid to get in front of the ball when blocking. Tyler has a short arm action and his throws are accurate to the target. If Tyler can gain ground when receiving, work on his blocking, and add arm strength, defensive abilities behind the plate can further improve. Offensively, Tyler has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He is an aggressive hitter, that takes a good hack, and has pop in his bat. Tyler centers the ball well and also makes good use of his lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
