Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Cohen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities both at SS plus on the mound. He showed as one of the top arms at the event and that is where he projects best for the next level. His delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his long, loose arm action to work well to the plate. He has deception as he hides the ball well and pounds the zone with a lot of strikes. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 90 mph. His fastball shows a range of 88-90 mph with late, hard arm side run. His breaking ball is a hammer displaying tight spin, late break, and tilt downward. He shows outstanding feel for his change-up with fading action. He had 3 quality innings with 7 strikeouts. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 6.98. Feet are quick / athletic as he attacks balls while playing through with his soft / sure hands. At the plate, Tyler shows an athletic setup with his hands working through a short / direct path to the ball. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered.

12/18/2011 - College PREP - Agoura Hills, CA Tyler is solid and athletic shortstop and spends time on the mound as well. In the infield, he has good rhythm that allows him to create good angles and get in an athletic fielding position to field out in front. At the plate, he has a clean load and good lower half that allows him create plus wrist action and bat speed. His abilities at the plate should continue to develop as he learns keep his hands working through the hitting zone. On the mound, he has a loose arm action, smooth delivery and throws the breaking ball for strikes. His potential on the mound will continue to improve as he polishes his changeup. As a 2013 graduate, Tyler has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
