07/15/2013 - College PREP - Plano, TX Tyler is a solid RHP/OF that will graduate in 2014. He utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more, play through with momentum to his target, and improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Ellis shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 79-83 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Tyler has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
