Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/OFPosition Projection

11/08/2015 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Tyler continues to progress on the diamond. In the MIF - he shows active footwork with athletic/fluid actions moving right to left around the ground ball. He works from the ground-up, funnels smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. In the OF, he takes aggressive routes and covers ground with speed. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and works in-line toward his target. Offensively, Tyler shows quiet actions with a balanced setup and solid base. Swing is level to and through the zone as he connects and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. Tyler is a versatile athlete who can make things happen in a variety of ways.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition at Pirate City In Tyler's most recent Factory event the young two-way player showed improvements in his defensive and hitting grades. At shortstop, he was aggressive to the ball, moved well laterally and was low in his fielding position. He played through the ball and had a nice transfer from over the top arm slot. His arm action is slightly stiff, he lacked arm strength and his feeds were long. Offensively, he is a switch hitter that showed near mirror image from both sides. His hands are in a strong position, front side closed, head controlled and has an overall good setup. His hips seem to drift too much from the right side. While from the left side there is a lack of rhythm between the hands and lower-half. Focusing on keeping his hands high and learning contact points will help his hitting from both sides. On the mound, he throws two pitches with his curve-ball having 11/5 shape. He showed a good tempo, mound presence and level shoulders, with ability to stay around the zone. Tyler needs to clean up his mechanics, long toss to strengthen his arm and finish more completely. In all, Tyler is a small/athletically built player with some good ability that has time to get stronger and improve.

08/24/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Poughkeepsie, NY Tyler is a young, switch hitting player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Tyler has soft hands, active feet, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Tyler has a quick arm action, a repeatable delivery, and he throws strikes. Offensively, Tyler is equally as good from both sides of the plate. He has a square / athletic set-up, a short / square stride, and a level swing. He can spray to all fields and has some pop to the pull side. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field out in front
2. Play more through
Pitching
1. Loosen arm action
2. Finish - bend
Offense
1. Rhythm / timing
2. More lower 1/2
3. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
