Official Scouting Report

  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

08/03/2014 - National Tryout - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Tyler continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 76 mph. Fastball showed a range of 72-76 with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength, work to throw more strikes, and improve off speed stuff. In the OF, foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down ball but needs to work on getting behind more to play through an improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength / leverage in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered.

01/20/2014 - National Tryout - Omaha, NE This young, R/R 2-way player continues to show solid abilities on the diamond. As a hitter, Tyler shows good balance with a solid base. He gets back into a loaded position and waits for his pitch. More power potential is there with extension and drive through contact. In the OF, he shows good prep and works to get behind the fly-ball. A clean exchange and in-line shoulders result in accurate throws. Ont he bump, Flannery shows good rhythm/tempo with smooth actions. He gathers over the rubber well in a balanced position and drives downhill off the rubber, in-line toward the dish. Only a 2017 grad - Tyler still has time to develop his game to get to where he wants to be.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Tyler is a lean, solid RHP/OF that will graduate in 2017. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, Flannery shows a squared, athletic stance with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He makes consistent contact and work to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays sweeping action with gradual break as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Tyler has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
