Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

02/15/2015 - College PREP - Beaufort, SC Fox showed as a RHP plus at for the first time at 3B at the event and has improved his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Command / control are well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Foot speed has improved, now an above average runner as indicated by his 7.20 60 time. At 3B, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his quick feet well in lateral movement, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together as he gets around balls and plays through well. At the plate, hitting / power grades have really improved, now showing as outstanding tools. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength / leverage in his swing with plus barrel accuracy as he balls explodes off the bat when centered. Tyler has a promising future in the game of baseball as a solid two-way player.

02/16/2014 - College PREP - Beaufort, SC Tyler is a solid RHP/OF that will graduate in 2016 with a ton of abilities at both positions. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound for the next level. Delivery is repeatable as he uses his lower half well and allows his arm action to work long and well to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with depth and sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches and locates to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.44 60 time. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, Fox shows an open / athletic setup and displays well above average power. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Tyler has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
