Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tyler continues to shine on the diamond. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. He stands over the rubber well, is around the plate with all of his pitches. Fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Defensively, his feet play well, and he moves with good body control to the baseball, displaying proper footwork around bag. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Tyler is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect that worked hard all week. At 1B, Tyler is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and works off the bag well. He has good footwork on double plays and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Tyler has a relaxed stance and a simple approach. He keeps a quiet head, gets his front foot down on time, and uses the whole field. He needs to continue to lead his hands back into the drive position, create backside drive with his lower half, and be aggressive on fastballs. On the bump, Tyler separates on time, has a clean arm stroke, and hides the ball in his delivery. He needs to continue to gather over the rubber, work north to south in his delivery, and ride his backside toward the plate. He cuts his fastball, commands his breaking ball over the middle part of the plate, and creates run on his changeup. Tyler will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/05/2018 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Tyler is a tall, lean LHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. Offensively, he has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel showing hard contact. Hands stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground, displaying range (7.16 60 time). Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with zip to his target. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his knuckleball and has good sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Tyler has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
