01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Tyler continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities at 1B. He did not pitch at the event. Foot speed does need to continue to improve through a speed / agility program but he does utilize his feet well in the fielding process and displays sound footwork around the bag. He shows off his athletic ability in his feeds of the double play with hands and feet working well together. At the plate, he continues to shine displaying plus power potential. He was 4 for 4 with a 2B and 3B at the event, consistently finding the barrel. Hauf has the makings to be a solid player at the next level and will get a ton of looks from the collegiate coaches.

10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Hauf has a long, large and projectable body - has quite a bit of room to fill out and add physical strength. At the plate, he showed quick, strong hands and has good leverage in his swing. Needs to work to flatten out his plane, and to shorten up his route to contact - as barrel works through the hitting zone longer, and he adds strength he will begin to create more backspin and carry. Defensively, he moved well around the bag and stayed down with the ball well. Can work to get his glove more out front, and ideally would spend a little more time across the infield at 3B - has enough arm to play there. Overall, a talented player with excellent upside potential.

08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3 Tyler has a projectable body and is a perfect fit for 1B. Fields ball out front, shows very good footwork on double play turns and is a big target at 1B. Shows the best at the plate, plus bat speed, quiet load and above average raw power. Has a few mechanical flaws, but with instruction he will be fine. He will be a power-hitting 1B, and once he adds some muscle to his frame, will project as a homerun hitter.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Tyler has good work habits, which showed with improved 60-time, and excellent knowledge of the game. At the plate, has excellent bat speed with power to all fields. Shows quick hands with good barrel accuracy. At times, tends to drop hands. Would like to see him let ball travel on off-speed pitches instead of drifting out to hit it. In the INF, shows excellent body control with soft hands to field. Decent moving laterally and has ability to make quick adjustments. Long toss will help improve arm strength.

04/27/2008 - College PREP - Stockton, CA Tyler is a tall lean player with potential at the next level. At 1B, Tyler shows a strong arm with good footwork around the bag. He makes plays despite fielding the ball deep. Once he learns to field in a lower position, he will have more control and balance. At the plate, Tyler has power and strength. He displays above average bat speed and can use the entire field. He tends to lift the ball too much, but does have power especially to the pull side. With some fine tuning, Tyler can play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
