Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Tyler displayed solid overall abilities during his time at the UA Preseason. He showed good stuff on the mound, a FB touching 86 MPH, which he throws on a downhill plane. Tyler has good balance, a short / quick arm, and competes in the zone with his pitches. He has a lean pitchers build, level shoulders, and lands in a square fielding position. In the OF, Tyler has quick feet, playable hands, and attacks the ball aggressively. He does well keeping his feet active. He plays through the ball, and gets good hip action when he throws. Tyler throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and delivers the ball accurately with carry to his target. At the plate, Tyler improved both his hitting and power grades from 42's to 48's. He has a good base, solid bat speed, and rotates his lower 1/2 well. Tyler puts the ball in play with pop in his bat. With continued improvement Tyler will be a two-way player to watch.

12/18/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 1 Tyler showed well at Pirate City both on the mound and in the OF. He is a big, strong, athletic player with good stuff on the hill. He has good balance, a repeatable delivery, and he commands both sides of the plate. Tyler has a nice arm actions and projects nicely as a RHP at the next level. In the OF, Tyler showed the ability to track the baseball and make plays. He has an accurate arm with good strength to his target. At the plate, Tyler went 3 for 6 with a triple and 2 doubles. He has a good base, a level bat path, and he makes hard contact.

11/07/2010 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Tyler is a two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with a tall, big, and athletic frame that is well suited for his positions. Currently, he projects only on the mound for the next level. Delivery is repeatable as he shows consistent mechanics that allows his arm action to work loose and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 83-86mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball is solid displaying an 11/5 shape with late, sharp breaking action. Changeup shows an average feel for with fading action. He throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.34 60 time. Feet are active but needs to work on taking proper routes / angles to work in getting behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. Offensively, he makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. Tyler has a lot of potential and an upside on the mound as he will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
