01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Tyler showed some impressive tools at the UAAAPS Tournament including plus speed (6.58 in the 60) and the instincts to use that speed in games. He plays hard and aggressively, constantly putting pressure on the defense. Tyler gets excellent jumps and showed the ability to steal both 2B and 3B seemingly whenever he was on base. His approach at the plate is also aggressive, as he swings with intent and gets the barrel through the zone. His upper and lower body are well coordinated through the zone and he releases the barrel well while maintaining a quiet head. Defensively, Tyler patrolled CF well, using those speed and instincts to close on balls, and his strong arm (89 mph) to prevent baserunners from taking the extra base. Overall, this an exciting prospect who can stay in the middle of the field defensively and can impact a game in many ways.

07/12/2017 - College PREP - Catonsville, MD Tyler is an athletic OF prospect who will graduate in 2019. In the OF, Tyler shows active, fluid footwork and is very agile tracking down fly balls. He gets into a square, athletic position on ground balls and fields with soft hands. He has a quick, clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws which allows them to remain accurate and carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH set up in an open stance and take a square stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to hard contact and gap to gap pop. Overall, Tyler is a talented prospect who has the skill set that will translate well to the next level.

05/15/2016 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Tyler has a young thin framed body and continues to make positive strides on the field. He is R/R SS with soft hands, quick feet, aggressive instincts and ability to cover ground. Tyler has a quick release with accurate arm, and with improved arm strength will be capable of making the long throw from deep in the hole. At the plate he is a very smooth hitter with good timing and loose path through zone. He uses his hips and hands with good body rotation to drive baseball to all fields. Although young; Tyler plays with energy, good instincts and carries himself well.

09/27/2015 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Tyler is a young (2019 grad) R/R SS. Defensively, he shows quick/active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He is sure handed, gathers smoothly and has a clean exchange to fire accurate throws to 1B. He plays through the ball and gains ground toward his target. A long toss program will help to strengthen his arm which will aid in his development on the left side of the INF. As a hitter - Martinez has a square setup with fluid rhythm in his hands. He takes an aggressive hack with some bat speed and barrels the ball up, He is a line-drive type of hitter as he connects and hustles out of the box and down the 1B line. Only a 2019 grad - Tyler still has a ton of time to physically mature and develop his tools.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
