Official Scouting Report

  • C/RHPPosition Projection

07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Tyler continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.40. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 63 mph. Fastball showed a range of 60-62 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/21/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Redwood City (San Francisco/San Jose), CA Tyler is a tall, athletic C/RHP. Behind the plate, he has a solid frame and works hard to block pitches in the dirt. He tries to earn strikes and release throws with loose arm action. On the mound, this righty stands tall over the rubber and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot with clean arm action. He drives his lower 1/2 off the rubber as he delivers a 3-pitch mix and stays directional towards his target. With the stick, Tyler hits from both sides of the plate. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone as he looks to drive the ball back up through the middle of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Low, athletic setup
2. Present low target
3. Quicker exchange to throw
Pitching
1. Keep eyes on target
2. Get to balance point
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Improve bat speed
3. Level out swing path

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
