Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Morris is a hardworking player with a positive attitude and plus makeup and continued to show as LHP/1B at the event. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound for the next level. Fastball showed a range of 69-74 mph with solid sink and hides the ball well. Breaking ball displays 2/9 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, working both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develops more off speed pitches. At 1B, he shows smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a big / quality receiver. He works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared, athletic stance with balance. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power grades will improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

07/12/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Morris showed as a LHP and at 1B for the first time. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a solid receiver. For defensive grades to continue to improve, needs to play through balls in a low approach and improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work to and through a level swing path. He is aggressive but needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 1 for 3. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/4 tilt when he stays on top of pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for and needs to throw it more in games. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/07/2013 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Tyler is a LHP who will graduate in 2014. On the mound he shows in line direction with level shoulders and a sound landing. Tyler shows potential on the mound but will need to work on the consistency of his delivery. If he can work on reaching a taller balance point, better extension, and more of a complete finish he should see improvements in his overall pitching abilities. At the plate, Tyler shows a square setup with a load, getting his hands back and foot down. His balance is centered with the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Hitting grades will improve as he works on staying short with his swing path while focusing on smoother actions. With another year before graduation, Tyler shows abilities with room for improvement

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
