Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/RHPPosition Projection

09/25/2016 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Tyler continues to show as a LHP/RHP at the event. Arm strength from the right side has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 67 mph. Changeup continues to show as his best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed with sinking action. Control is solid from both sides as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/18/2016 - College PREP - Hattiesburg, MS Tyler is a tall, LHP prospect who continues to improve in all facets of his game. He has an easy repeatable, delivery with a live arm that gives his pitches good movement and can throw from both the left and right side. He works from a high 3/4 arm slot with sound mechanics to separate on time and gets good extension on his release. He shows feel for his breaking ball from both sides with good depth and action on a pitch that could develop into an out pitch. Striding directionally towards the plate will help improve command and help him work ahead of hitters. At the plate, this prospect shows gap to gap ability with a level swing and uses all fields effectively. He has some barrel feel and can hit the ball hard when he stays short. We look forward to continue watching Tyler improve.

12/06/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Pensacola, FL Tyler showed as both a RHP & LHP at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. As a southpaw, he ran his FB up to 71, spun a 2/8 CB from 57-58, and showed a CH from 49-52. His change-up proved to be his best pitch, with him maintaining his fastball arm speed to allow for deception and rotation. As a righty, he got his fastball up to 66 with tail, and threw a slider from 55-57. He showed some feel for his delivery and repeatability with a controlled landing and finish with his chest over his front knee. At the plate, he was direct with his barrel path after getting his hands activated, and he stayed through the zone by getting his backside involved. All in all - Tyler is an intriguing hurler that has a unique ability to throw with both arms.

07/30/2015 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Tyler showed exceptional skill as an OF at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he worked behind and through the baseball with quick feet and body control. He worked to throw in-line to his targets with a clean arm stroke and also worked to get his body into the right positioning per hitter. Offensively, he had feel for the barrel with a level bat path. He hit from a good setup and got his lower body engaged to hit. More balance throughout the swing and more hand activation to launch are essential to improving hit ability. On the mound, he threw three pitches, a FB, 1/7 CB, and a CH. He was quiet with his body throughout his delivery and athletic in his movements. He had a good demeanor, with repeatable actions and with more leg drive and front side extension will hit his spots more frequently. In all - Tyler has two years to grow and add strength as he preps for the next level. He also has the unique ability to throw right handed.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Tyler showed good poise on the mound with a commanding presence at the Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City. On the hill, he showed a good ability to throw strikes and worked to keep his focus in later innings. At the plate, this righty showed a solid hitting position and generated sound bat speed with barrel accuracy. He hits with a strong base, but needs to continue to tap into his lower 1/2 and simplify his swing. Defensively, Tyler works well in the OF getting solid jumps. He has good footwork to and around the ball and throws with accuracy. Developing arm strength and eliminating extra glove movement will improve his abilities as a fielder. Tyler is a great player that projects as an LHP/OF. He is respectful, hustles everywhere and strives to get better.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Tyler continues to work hard on his game. On the mound, this LHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose arm action. He gets good glove-side lead and has fluid mechanics throughout his delivery. FB shows slight tail topping out at 71 mph. Breaking ball has ‘sweeping' action with 2/8 shape. Changeup is thrown with FB arm speed and shows slight tail. Driving his lower ½ off of the rubber will help to increase velocity. In the OF, Tyler takes solid routes/angles as he works into position behind the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target. With the bat, he shows a simple/balanced setup with rhythm. He is on-time, swinging on a level path and connecting consistently. Working back into a loaded position and utilizing his lower ½ will help to increase power at the plate.

11/02/2014 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Tyler is a young, 2-way player (LHP/OF) who has a projectable frame. On the bump, he throws a 3-pitch mix from a 3/4 arm slot with a loose/clean arm action. He maintains fluid tempo, works to a controlled balance point, and keeps level shoulders. He utilizes his lower 1/2 well and drives off the rubber downhill, in-line toward the plate. FB ranges from 69-71 mph while showing slight tail. He shows good command and can work it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball has good depth with 2/7 shape. Changeup is throw with a loose wrist and shows tail and sink. Working to get more glove side lead and developing a more consistent release point will both help to improve effectiveness on the mound. In the OF, Tyler hustles into position behind the fly-ball. He secures the ball with 2 hands, gains ground toward his target and has a clean exchange to throw. With the bat, this RHH shows an open stance with good balance. Swing path is level as delivers the barrel on a short/direct path. Letting the ball travel deeper into the zone will allow him to use the whole field. Tyler has skills (only a 2017 grad) and will only continue to progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
