Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tyler showed solid overall improvements during his time in Pirate City. In the OF, Tyler has active feet, he presents his glove well, and he fields the ball smoothly. He tracks well, takes solid angles, and throws with strength and accuracy to his target. On the mound, Tyler keeps his eyes on target, he touched 79 MPH with his FB, and he gets good extension on his pitches. Offensively, Tyler improved both hitting and power grades to 45 and 48 respectively. He has a rhythmic swing, good balance, and he keeps a still head. He has good bat speed, makes square contact, and he hits with power to the pull side.

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Tyler is lean, athletic OF/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 60 time of 7.35. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a closed setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, he continues to shine. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 75-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard to fastball velocities. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Tyler has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
