07/23/2012 - 2012 Team One Northeast Showcase At Team One Northeast, Tyler displayed active feet in the infield, along with the ability to field the ball out front. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to create a low and stable base when fielding backhands. At the plate, he has an athletic setup with a good idea of how to engage his lower half, and supplies some decent pop in the gaps. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to create some pre-pitch rhythm to help get his hands ready to fire. As a 2013 graduate, Tyler has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Tyler continues to show as a solid player both as a SS and RHP. Defensively at SS, he fields the ball consistently and he plays thru to his target. Abilities will improve if he can loosen up his actions and increase his arm strength. On the mound, he stays in-line, he remains balanced, and he has on-time rhythm. Increased arm strength and more level shoulders will help to improve mound effectiveness. Tyler still has a year to improve and polish his skills.

08/03/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 1 Tyler is an athletic two-way player at SS and on the mound that will graduate in 2012. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.75 60 time. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. He attacks ground balls but needs to work on playing through more with his body and working to get rid of the ball quicker. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. Offensively is where Piccolo shows best through a balanced approach. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a long swing path. He makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-77 mph with arm side run. Off speed pitches are below average, needing further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Tyler has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
