Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Tyler is a 2019 LHP/1B. Defensively, Tyler has active footwork to the ball, agile movements, and soft/sure hands. He fields cleanly, plays through properly, and throws with a quick release and carry to his target. At the plate, Tyler has an athletic swing, good balance, and fast bat speed. Tyler has a direct barrel to the ball, makes consistent contact, and can work the ball gap to gap. On the mound, Tyler has a good arm circle, keeps his eyes on target, and gets good extension on his pitches. Tyler competed in the zone with all of his pitches. Tyler has a bright future ahead of himself.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tyler is an athletic 2019 LHP/1B prospect and has a bright future ahead of himself. At 1B, Tyler, presents a low/early glove, and has soft hands. He has a clean exchange, and gets his feet into a good throwing position. Continuing to work from the ground up will elevate his game to the next level. At the plate, Tyler starts in a tall and open stance. He loads his hands into the launch position and stays balanced through contact. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and using the lower half will allow him to get extension through contact. On the bump, Tyler gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and repeats his delivery. He has good tempo on the mound and works both sides of the plate. Finishing over the front side and keeping a strong glove side will allow him to stay directional toward the plate. Tyler is a smart pitcher and kept hitters off balance. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/27/2017 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Tyler improved on the mound and at the plate during his last workout in Wilmington. He improved his CB, and his hitting numbers spiked. On the mound, Tyler has a long/lean frame, a loose arm action, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He works on a downhill plane, his CB shows good bite, and he lands in a controlled position. More extension on his pitches and continuing to add arm strength will continue to help mound effectiveness improve. At the plate, Tyler has a rhythmic swing, good balance, and a level swing plane. He flashes some bat speed, makes square contact, and uses his lower body. Loosening his grip and added bat speed will only help hitting numbers spike. Tyler has a bright future ahead of himself and we look forward to tracking his progress.

08/03/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Tyler is a young two-way player with the potential to impact the game in multiple areas. As a LHP, Tyler works with tempo throwing from a high 3/4 slot with a clean arm action. He has square direction and a controlled landing as he maintains eye contact with his target. Tyler's FB ranged from 72-74 MPH with tail. In the field, Tyler makes all the routine plays as he plays with rhythm at first base. He has a long arm action that shows to be accurate. Offensively, Tyler has a tall setup and takes a short stride with a load. He has smooth rhythm in his swing as he sprayed the ball to all fields. Tyler will continue to improve his baseball abilities as he builds confidence in himself.

05/15/2016 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Tyler continues to work hard on his tools. At 1B, he is light on his feet with sure hands to make routine plays. He works from low to high and has good bag awareness adjusting his footwork well. On the bump, he releases from a high 3/4 arm slot, with smooth rhythm and chest to knee extension. He mixes 3 pitches well with a loose arm action and good control. His FB sat 70-73 mph working down in the zone, CB shows potential with 1-7 break, and his changeup had good run with swing and miss deception. He works the ball in and out and throws strikes consistently. Offensively, Tyler shows a square setup with rhythm to load. He has hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to use entire field. Tyler is a 2019 grad, and with 3 full seasons to develop and get stronger will be a great dual position player to follow.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Tyler is a lean 1B/LHP that will graduate in 2019. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared/athletic setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch, displaying 1/7 shape with late/sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Tyler has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
